THEHAUSS, INC. is looking for a skilled and forward-thinking Lighting Designer to bring life, depth, and atmosphere to our interiors and exteriors through well-planned, customized lighting design. Light shapes space—and in this role, you’ll help us define mood, enhance architectural elements, and guide visual flow using your expertise in both function and artistry.

Key Responsibilities 

Design and draft interior and exterior lighting plans (residential & small commercial)

Select fixtures, bulbs, control systems, and dimming methods

Collaborate on reflected ceiling plans (RCPs), mood boards, and renderings

Ensure all lighting selections meet code requirements and design intent

Recommend sustainable, smart, or energy-efficient solutions

Work with electricians, architects, and AV teams during implementation

Compensation

$40–$75/hour, depending on scope and technical complexity

Flat-fee project packages available

Bonuses for full-home lighting concepts or luxury commercial projects

Commission options for specifying lighting brands (if applicable)

Licensing & Requirements 

Licensing not required for design, but familiarity with NEC code is a plus

Must sign an NDA and Independent Contractor Agreement

Collaboration with licensed electricians may be required on-site

Must have a well-organized digital portfolio and tech access for remote work

Workspace

Flexible: work remotely, hybrid, or project-based on-site in the Raleigh area

Use your own devices/software, or work via our shared Google Drive, Asana, and design platforms

Ability to meet virtually with clients, builders, or electricians as needed

Site visits may be scheduled for installations or fixture placements

Degree in Lighting Design, Interior Design, Architecture, or equivalent field

2+ years of experience designing lighting systems for interiors/exteriors

Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Dialux, SketchUp, or ElumTools

Familiarity with LED specs, architectural lighting, and smart systems

Portfolio showing a strong mix of residential or boutique commercial projects
