THEHAUSS, INC. is looking to collaborate with a skilled and design-sensitive Upholsterer who can bring new life to both vintage and custom furniture pieces. From reupholstering chairs and benches to crafting custom headboards, cushions, and accent pieces, your work will directly contribute to the tactile, visual, and emotional experience of our interiors.
This is a flexible, project-based or ongoing freelance opportunity ideal for artisans who take pride in their stitches, seams, and surfaces — and who understand the value of detail in design.

Key Responsibilities
Reupholster existing furniture (chairs, sofas, ottomans, benches, headboards, etc.)
Construct new upholstered elements for custom pieces
Cut and sew fabrics with precision and consistency
Apply padding, batting, webbing, springs, and trim using correct techniques
Collaborate with designers on material selection, color palettes, and finish details
Ensure durability, comfort, and clean finishing for every item
Compensation
$30–$65/hour, depending on complexity and experience
Flat project pricing available for custom builds or sets
Bonuses for intricate detailing, rush jobs, or successful restorations
Material costs reimbursed or coordinated with design team
Licensing & Requirements
No formal license required
Must sign an Independent Contractor Agreement and NDA
Upholstery shop or clean workspace access required
Must have your own tools and materials (specialty fabrics may be provided by THEHAUSS)
Reliable communication and timely delivery are essential
Workspace
Work from your own upholstery studio or designated workspace
Pickup/drop-off options available for Raleigh-area collaborators
Designers provide mood boards, sketches, and dimensions
Communication and project coordination through Google Drive, Asana, and direct contact
3+ years of experience in furniture upholstery or soft furnishings
Ability to work with a wide range of fabrics: cotton, velvet, linen, leather, blends
Skilled in frame prep, cushion construction, stitching, and detailing
Strong sense of proportion, tension, and alignment
Bonus: experience with piping, tufting, or embroidered details
